COURTYARD HOUSE
This assignment greatly broadened my perspective on architecture. The patio typology stands as one of the most significant historical archetypes in architecture, deeply embedded in nearly every culture. It’s a testament to humanity’s innate preference for thriving within enclosed spaces—both indoor and outdoor rooms.
Conceptually, I approached the building as an envelope. Drawing inspiration from Mies van der Rohe, a grid of cruciform columns was introduced, creating a clear structural framework. The interior, however, was treated as a piece of furniture—carefully crafted to never touch or disrupt the integrity of the envelope. This deliberate separation highlights the harmony between structure, space, and human interaction, allowing the design to feel both grounded in tradition and forward-thinking in execution.
